How Sugarloaf tours differ

There are three kinds of trip. A guided visit takes place inside the park and lasts 50 minutes. A city tour of about 4 hours adds a ride on the cable car to a drive through Rio. A private day trip joins Sugarloaf with other sights. Each one covers different things, so look at five points: entry, transfer, language, pickup area and food.

The guided visit in the park is offered in Portuguese and English. It is sold as a package with the cable car ticket. Prices below are in BRL as of October 2026. Available dates are shown when you book.

Our picks: Sugarloaf and Christ the Redeemer tours

The full-day tour covers the most ground, but Sugarloaf and the barbecue lunch come only with the options that name them. Both half-day tours include the Sugarloaf ticket, which makes them the safer pick if the summit is the goal; the sunset version ends up there.

For most visitors the cable car ticket alone is enough. The guided visit suits people who want the park explained, and the city tour suits those who do not want to organise transport themselves.

The guided visit in the park

The guided visit runs 50 minutes inside the park, in Portuguese and English. It is sold as a package with the cable car. The cable car ticket plus the guided visit costs BRL 270. The package with a half-price ticket costs BRL 167, and the one with the Brazil promotion BRL 255. These are package prices, not a surcharge on top of the ticket. Check the available dates when you book. The ticket categories are on the cable car page.

The city tour with the cable car

About 4 hours, with pickup at selected hotels.

What it covers

City views from the road and a ride on the cable car. The cable car ticket is included only if you choose that option. Food is not included.

Language

A guide and a GPS audio commentary are two different things. The audio commentary is available in several languages, including German. Do not assume a live guide in German.

Pickup

The departure time is confirmed after booking. South Zone and Barra are separate pickup options, so pick the one for your hotel.

Carnival and cancellation

During Carnival the city part can be shortened or dropped because of traffic and road closures. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before.

What to check before you book

  • Entry: The cable car ticket is not always part of the price. It depends on the option.
  • Transfer: City and day trips list hotel pickup in selected areas. For the guided visit you come to the park yourself.
  • Language: Look at the language of the guide and of the audio commentary.
  • Pickup area: Pickups cover selected hotels only. Check yours.
  • Food: Meals and drinks are not always included, so read the list for your option.

If you want to see Rio from the air instead, read about helicopter flights. For both big sights in one day, see the Christ the Redeemer and Sugarloaf trips. Guides for Corcovado and the statue are on the Christ the Redeemer tours page. Directions to the cable car are on the getting there page.
